- Describe and explain the basic functions of human hearing and vision perception.
- Explain the concepts and differences of analog and digital audiovisual signal.
- Compute the technical requirements for the production and transmission of audiovisual digital content.
- Describe and compare the newly arising technologies in audio and visual modalities.
- Apply and design mass media communications systems.
- Utilize specialized software for processing audiovisual content.
General Skills
- Search, analysis and synthesis of information by using the appropriate means and technology.
- Desicion making.
- Independent and cooperative work.
- Criticism and self-criticism ability.
- Free, creative and inductive thinking.
Course Contents
• Human hearing and vision. Audiovisual perception.
• Analog and Digital TV.
• Audiovisual capturing, archiving, processing, and signal transmission.
• Compression and storing techniques.
• New technologies of TV production and content processing
• High Definition Image and Video (4Κ, 8Κ).
• Stereophonic audio and stereoscopic television/cinema.
• Multimedia technologies and properties (fps, resolutions, etc.)
• Convergence of digital technologies of informatics and television/cinema.
The laboratory exams will cover the fundamental concepts of audiovisual processing (audio, image and video) along with protuction strategies.

Students evaluation
Ι. Semester exams - SE (60%) for examing taught theoritical concepts of the course, problems solving based on mathematical calculations and critical thought.
ΙΙ. Laboratory Exams - LE (20%)
- Exams on laboratory exercises
III. Individual exams - IE (20%)
- The individual exams are explained in first lectures and are due to be completed in predefined time intervals.
* The students that fail in the laboratory exams can be examined in subsequent examing periods.
For the acquirement of the ECTS upon course completion the final grade is calculated (SE*0,6 + LΕ*0,20 + IΕ*0,20) and has to be at least 5/10. Moreover, there is a separate threshold of the internal grading (SE, LE, IE) that is defined to 4/10.
